2-7 May 2010
Vienna, Austria
The YES Network is organizing and hosting a roundtable session about the OneGeology Initiative. The symposia and roundtable discussion will be broadcast as a live virtual webinar so those unable to attend EGU this year will be able to participate virtually. It is expected that this event will launch the start of a long-term collaboration between the EGU and the YES Network.
For more information about the EGU 2010 meeting, visit http://meetings.copernicus.org/egu2010/.
Unfortunately, the YES Network is unable to fund travel sponsorships to this event. As such, we encourage all YES Network members who are planning on attending this event and who are in need of financial assistance to procure their own resources.
Date and time: Friday, May 7, 2010, 13:30 - 17:00 (CEST)
Room: SM2 (Blue Level, Basement)
Virtual participants are required to register in order to participate in the roundtable session.

Moderators will be in charge of keeping the YES Network roundtable discussions running smoothly – both virtually and live. Moderators will be responsible for fielding questions for the panel discussion (from both the audience and virtual participants). Moderators will also be responsible for distilling the comments of the speakers and the results of the roundtable discussions into a short document that will be posted on the YES Network site after the EGU meeting.
There will be a roundtable moderator meeting at EGU (date/time TBD). During this meeting, we will go over the roles and responsibilities of moderators and will have a brief training session of how to use the webinar software to moderate virtual speakers and participants.

Description
The roundtable session aims to foster conversation between science, policy and society, engaging both senior and young geoscientists as presenters and participants. The topic of the roundtable is the “OneGeology Initative”. OneGeology aims to make dynamic geological map data worldwide available via the web. This will create a focus for accessing geological information for everyone, which will increase understanding of the environment and provide a science base to tackle environmental and societal challenges. During the roundtable we explore the OneGeology initiative, its progress, current applications and future mapping activities. Through the roundtable we aim to further familiarize the geosciences community with the visible application of geosciences, find possible new applications, and identify areas of cooperation between EGU, YES and OneGeology.
